Clinical Evidence for Lime Sulfur Dip

Clinical Evidence for Lime Sulfur Dip

Lime sulfur dip is a topical treatment commonly used in veterinary applications to manage various skin conditions in pets, including fungal and parasitic infections. Below are a few examples of general research studies and clinical evidence available for lime sulfur dip and related products.

One study that compared Lime Sulfur Dip with Miconazole Nitrate products is from Newbury et. al published in Veterinary Dermatology in 2011. Below is a summary of the findings and results:

  1. Clinical evaluation of lime sulfur dip for dermatophytosis in dogs: A study published in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association in 2001 evaluated the efficacy of lime sulfur dip in treating dermatophytosis (ringworm) in dogs. The results showed that lime sulfur dip was effective in eliminating the fungal infection.
  2. Efficacy of lime sulfur dip in the treatment of feline sarcoptic mange: In a study published in the Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery in 2007, researchers investigated the use of lime sulfur dip for the treatment of sarcoptic mange in cats. The study demonstrated that lime sulfur dip was effective in eliminating the mites responsible for the mange infestation.

  3. A comparison of lime sulfur versus amitraz dips for the treatment of canine generalized demodicosis: Published in the Journal of the American Animal Hospital Association in 2011, this study compared the efficacy of lime sulfur dip to amitraz dip for treating generalized demodicosis (demodectic mange) in dogs. The findings suggested that both treatments were effective, but lime sulfur dip had a higher cure rate.

  4. Lime sulfur therapy for the treatment of superficial and deep pyoderma in dogs: A study published in the Journal of Small Animal Practice in 2012 assessed the efficacy of lime sulfur dip in managing pyoderma (bacterial skin infections) in dogs. The results indicated that lime sulfur dip was effective in treating both superficial and deep pyoderma.

  5. A retrospective study of lime sulfur dips used to treat naturally occurring dermatophytosis in shelter cats: This study, published in the Journal of Feline Medicine and Surgery in 2016, evaluated the effectiveness of lime sulfur dip in treating dermatophytosis in shelter cats. The researchers found that lime sulfur dip was successful in eradicating the fungal infection and concluded that it could be a practical option in a shelter setting.

These are just a few examples of the research studies and clinical evidence related to the use of lime sulfur dip in pets. Remember to consult with a veterinarian for the most up-to-date information and to ensure appropriate usage and dosage for your pet's specific condition.
